In Distant Hills, Jamaica, Frederic Edwin Church lets the vast, open background fill most of the picture. Green leaves and brown slopes in the foreground give the landscape depth, while muted beige and greyish tones create a peaceful atmosphere.

Church made this landscape study in July 1865 using oil paint and graphite on paperboard. The original belongs to Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and was donated by the artist’s son, Louis P. Church. This reproduction preserves the texture, pale edges and handwritten inscription of the image shown.

Choose paper or another material

We make your reproduction to order. Choose from three different paper types, or explore options including wood, aluminium, acoustic panels, paper mounted on acrylic and canvas on an 18 mm stretcher frame. The material gives the landscape different qualities, from the fine surface of paper to the more tactile character of canvas.

Make the framing your own

On paper, the print can be combined with a frame and mount. A light oak frame complements the warm background, while smoked oak brings out the darker earthy tones. A muted green frame can pick up the shades of the leaves and give the small plant a more prominent role in the composition.

An off-white mount gives the visible edges of the work room to breathe. Try a coloured mount too, and choose a centred or off-centre position. The preview lets you see your choices take shape and find the combination of frame, mount and proportions that suits your home.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0631/6634/9482/files/distant-hills-jamaica-ramme-20261028.jpg?v=1793282009
