About the frame

A slim and elegant frame in solid ayous wood, where quality and simplicity go hand in hand. The molding measures 15 mm in both width and depth, and the matte black lacquer gives a uniform, smooth look that completely covers the grain of the wood. The hard ayous wood ensures a solid frame with high durability and a long life – perfect for everything from small art prints to larger posters.

The frame is available in as many as 37 standard sizes from 10x10 cm to 60x80 cm. The back is fitted with metal fittings, so you can easily hang it both vertically and horizontally. The front molding overlaps the glass and the backing board by 5 mm, so the artwork is held securely without the edge stealing the attention.

Glass

The glass is decisive for the overall impression – and for how your artwork is preserved over time.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass) is light, shatterproof and almost as clear as standard glass when the protective film is removed.

Standard glass gives maximum clarity and a classic look.

Non-reflective glass reduces almost all glare with its slightly matte surface – an advantage in rooms with a lot of light.

Museum glass combines the best of both worlds: it is completely clear like standard glass, but reduces both glare and UV rays significantly, so your posters look their very best and keep their colors for many years.

Passepartout

If you want a passepartout around your artwork, the frame itself must be chosen in a larger format than the artwork. For example, a 40×40 cm poster with a passepartout of approximately 5 cm requires a frame in 50×50 cm.

Passepartouts are available in several color shades. If the frame is larger than 81×110 cm, however, the passepartout can only be delivered in white or off-white.

Inner dimensions

The inner dimensions should be 1 cm below the size of the artwork. If you are framing a poster of 41×51 cm with a passepartout, the cutout size should therefore be 40×50 cm. That way, the board overlaps the artwork by approx. 5 mm on all sides, which makes the poster stable and easy to mount. If you want a reveal edge instead, you can select it in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimensions

The outer dimensions of the passepartout always correspond to the dimensions of the glass, so you do not need to enter them yourself. Remember that the glass, passepartout and backing board sit approx. 5 mm in under the front of the frame.

Number of cutouts

From 0 to 5 cutouts can be cut in the passepartout, and if you want even more, we are happy to help if you contact us. Zero cutouts is an obvious choice when the work is to lie on top of the board, so the edge, signature and print marks stand out.

Placement of the cutout

There are three placements to choose between:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout is centered so the distance to top and bottom is the same.

Top-positioned cutout: Same distance to the top and sides, which creates a little extra space at the bottom.

Free placement: Gives you full control over the placement. You enter the distance from the top and the left side and can continuously see the result in our preview.

All passepartouts are made of 1,5 mm acid-free board of professional quality.
