About the frame

We offer two types of aluminum frames: a standard model for smaller posters and this premium frame from the German manufacturer Nielsen, which is probably the most stable aluminum frame on the market.

The extremely slim and slightly curved front profile of only 6 mm gives, with its matte surface, an elegant and minimalist look without compromising on strength - even in the largest formats. The brushed side is 20 mm deep.

Standard formats smaller than 30x30 are only offered with our standard aluminum frame.

If you want other dimensions, you can also buy the black premium aluminum frame in custom sizes.

NOTE: Please be aware that the frame sizes always refer to the dimensions of the glass and backing board, so a frame of e.g. 40×60 cm fits a poster of the same size perfectly.

Passepartout

If your artwork is to have a passepartout, you choose the frame in a format that is larger than the artwork itself. A poster of 40×40 cm with approx. 5 cm of passepartout all the way around fits, for example, in a frame of 50×50 cm.

You can choose between several colors of passepartout. In formats larger than 81×110 cm, however, they are made exclusively in white and off-white.

Cutout size

Measure the poster as accurately as possible, and enter a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller than the dimensions. An artwork of 70×100 cm should, for example, have a cutout size of 69×99 cm. This way the passepartout covers approx. 5 mm of the edge all the way around, and the poster sits stably. A reveal border is also an option – you will find it in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimensions

The outer dimensions of the passepartout are always identical to the dimensions of the glass in the frame. Note that glass, backing board and passepartout go approx. 5 mm in under the front edge of the frame.

Number of holes

You can have between 0 and 5 holes cut in the passepartout. If you want more, you are welcome to contact us. Zero holes is typically chosen when the work is to be placed on top of the cardboard – an elegant way to show the entire edge, the signature or the print marks.

Position of the cutout

The hole can be positioned in three different ways:

Centered hole (standard): Equal distance to top and bottom gives a classic, balanced look.

Top-positioned hole: The hole is moved up, so the distance to the top and sides is the same and the bottom border becomes wider.

Free positioning: Here you control the position yourself down to the smallest detail. You choose the distance from the top and the left side, while our preview shows what it looks like.

All our passepartouts are made of 1,5 mm acid-free cardboard of high quality.

Choice of glass

The glass has a great impact on both look and preservation. In aluminum frames, real glass is considerably more expensive than in wooden frames, as the combination of metal and glass demands much more of us in terms of both packaging and shipping - and even when we do our best, the risk of the glass breaking is much greater than with wooden frames. We will of course send new glass (and a frame if needed) if an accident happens, and this cost is also factored into the prices.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)

The lightest and safest choice. Shatterproof, almost weightless in large formats and perfect for homes with children. The clarity is close to that of standard glass, including the familiar reflections.

Standard glass

The classic look with natural color reproduction and distinct reflections. Good in rooms with calm or subdued light.

Non-reflective glass

A slightly matte surface reduces glare markedly and gives better visibility in rooms with a lot of light, large windows or direct lamps.

Museum glass

The absolute best quality. Almost invisible, minimal reflection and at least 70% UV protection. Together with the UV filters of modern windows, museum glass provides sufficient preservation of the colors. The effect is like seeing the artwork entirely without glass – just with long-lasting protection.

Framing and hanging

The premium aluminum frames have two movable hangers on the back. Attach the included cord and hang the frame horizontally.

How to put the poster in the frame:

1. Loosen all the corner screws and completely remove the two hangers at one of the shortest rails.

2. Remove the spring clips under the rail that hold the backing board under tension.

3. Remove one of the shortest rails.

4. Slide the glass and backing board out as one unit.

5. Place the poster between the glass and the backing board.

6. Slide everything back into the frame.

7. Fasten the rail again by screwing the two corners almost completely tight.

8. Put the small spring clips in place, so the backing board is held tightly against the glass.

9. Screw all the corners completely tight again.

Shipping & delivery

We produce all frames to order in our Danish frame workshop. The delivery time is usually just under a week of business days, but in busy periods it can take a little longer.

When the frame is sent with GLS, delivery normally takes 1 day.

Frames larger than 70×100 cm cannot be sent to a parcel shop - they are delivered by freight carrier directly to your address and typically arrive after 1-2 days.
