About the frame

In our range you will find both a standard aluminum frame for the smaller formats and this exclusive premium frame from German Nielsen. The premium version is known for its special stability and precision and is among the most solid aluminum frames on the market.

The standard frame has a far more golden tone, while this model has a light, elegant and more understated gold color.

The front profile is slightly curved and only 6 mm wide, which – together with the glossy finish – gives a minimalist, light and modern look that is at the same time strong enough for even the largest formats. The side has a brushed, matte surface and a depth of 20 mm.

For formats below 30x30 cm, only our standard aluminum frame is used.

If you need other dimensions, you can also choose the gold premium aluminum frame in a custom size.

NOTE: The sizes always indicate the dimensions of the glass and backing board. A frame in 30×30 cm therefore fits a poster of the same size exactly.

Passepartout

When you choose a passepartout, the size of the frame determines how much space there is around the artwork. The frame must therefore be larger than the artwork – a 30×40 cm poster with approx. 5 cm of passepartout requires, for example, a gold premium aluminum frame in 40×50 cm.

Passepartouts are available in several shades. If the frame is larger than 81×110 cm, however, the passepartout can only be supplied in white or off-white.

Cutout size

Start by measuring the artwork precisely. Then choose a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller than the poster – for an artwork of 41×51 cm, this corresponds to a cutout size of 40×50 cm. With approx. 5 mm overlap all the way around, the poster is held neatly and stably in place. If you prefer a reveal edge, it can be selected in our Frame Designer.

Outer size

On the outside, the passepartout always has the same dimensions as the glass. Remember that the front edge of the frame goes approx. 5 mm in over the glass, passepartout and backing board.

Number of cutouts

You decide for yourself whether the passepartout should have 0, 1 or up to 5 cutouts. If more are needed, you are welcome to write to us. Without cutouts, the artwork is laid on top of the board – ideal for art prints where the entire edge or the signature should be seen.

Placement of the cutout

You have three options to choose from:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout is placed with symmetrical distance to the top and bottom.

Top-placed cutout: The same distance to the top and sides, so a little extra space arises at the bottom.

Free choice: Here you can place the cutout exactly where you want it. You choose the distance from the top and the left side yourself, and you can follow how it looks at all times with our preview.

Regardless of your choice, the passepartout is made from 1,5 mm acid-free board of professional quality.

Choice of glass

The glass is of great importance for both look and protection. In aluminum frames, glass is more expensive than in wooden frames, because metal frames require more careful packaging and handling. The risk of glass damage during transport is higher – and should it happen, we will of course send new glass (and possibly a new frame). This risk is included in the price.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)

A shatterproof and very light material – particularly practical in large formats and perfect for homes with children. The transparency resembles standard glass and has the familiar reflections.

Standard glass

A classic choice with natural color rendering and distinct reflections. Recommended in rooms with calm light.

Non-reflective glass

The slightly matte surface reduces glare significantly and makes the artwork more visible in rooms with strong light, large windows or direct lighting.

Museum glass

The most exclusive solution. Almost invisible, with minimal reflection and at least 70% UV protection. Together with the UV filter of modern windows, it gives a noticeable preservation of the colors and the experience of seeing the artwork without glass.

Framing and hanging

The premium frame has two movable hangers on the back. Use the included cord and hang the frame horizontally.

How to put the poster in the frame:

1. Loosen all corner screws, and remove the two hangers on one of the short sides.

2. Remove the clamping pieces that hold the backing board in place.

3. Take the short molding completely off.

4. Slide the glass and backing board out as one combined unit.

5. Place the poster between the glass and the backing board.

6. Slide the unit back into the frame.

7. Mount the molding again and tighten the corners almost all the way.

8. Put the small clamps in place, so the backing board is held close to the glass.

9. Tighten the corners completely.

Shipping & delivery

All frames are produced to order at our Danish workshop. Normal production time is a few business days, but in busy periods there may be a longer delivery time.

When shipping with GLS, the delivery time is typically 1 day.

Frames that exceed 70×100 cm are not sent to a parcel shop. They are delivered by freight carrier to your address and normally arrive within 1–2 days.
