In 1895, the American artist Mary Stevenson Cassatt exhibited this work at the Galerie Durand-Ruel in Paris under the title "Mother and Child" (Mère et enfant). A beautiful work in green tones, with a mother wearing a fashionable and luxurious gown of green-gold silk with a Renaissance-style sleeve.
