Crayfish

Crayfish illustrated by French Charles Orbigny (1806-1876). The image is digitally enhanced from the 1892 edition of the Dictionnaire Universel D'histoire Naturelle. The crayfish lives from Scandinavia to Italy in lakes, ponds and streams, where it hides during the day and emerges at night as an omnivorous predator. It does not eat in winter.
