About the frame

Our box frames in standard sizes are created for you who want a frame with depth and a calm, exclusive look, where the artwork gets space and presence. A box frame - also known as a shadow box frame or a frame with spacer strips - is ideal for art that should not lie right up against the glass, and it gives the work a distinct three-dimensional effect.

The frames are made in our Danish workshop with great precision and a sense of detail. The 20 mm wide front profile combined with a solid depth of 30 mm gives the frame a balanced and timeless look that suits modern graphic works just as well as classic art prints. The front overlaps the glass by 5 mm, so the artwork sits securely and tightly in the frame.

The box frames are fitted with integrated 14 mm spacer strips, which create an elegant distance between the glass and the backing board. The distance gives the artwork space and depth and at the same time ensures that the work does not touch the glass - a solution that is both aesthetic and gentle.

The dimensions of the frame are always stated on the basis of the size of the glass and the backing board, which corresponds to the size of the artwork you want framed. The box frame comes as standard with white, acid-free insert paper, and you can add a passepartout without a cutout if you want a firmer or colored background.

Glass

The type of glass matters a great deal for both the visual impression and the protection your artwork gets over time. For box frames, we recommend three variants of real glass with different properties. We also offer acrylic glass, but do not recommend it for this type of frame.

Standard glass
A traditional glass with clear color rendering and distinct reflections.

Non-reflective glass
Reduces glare significantly and gives a more even and calm look in bright surroundings.

Museum glass
An exclusive glass that appears almost invisible thanks to its completely clear, non-reflective properties. At the same time, the museum glass provides at least 70% UV protection and ensures very high color accuracy.

Passepartout

The box frame comes with a visible backing board in brown hardboard as standard. If you want to use this as part of the look, it is recommended to choose a passepartout without a cutout. The built-in spacer strips match a classic white passepartout, but other colors can give a more unique result.

If your artwork is to lie behind a passepartout with an overlap (approx. 5 mm), you should choose a version with a cutout. In that case, you need to take the following into account:

Cutout size
Choose a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller than the dimensions of the artwork in both height and width.

If you want a solution with two layers, where the artwork lies on top of a passepartout behind it, the cutout must be approx. 1 cm larger than the artwork. Here you also need to buy an extra passepartout without a cutout (you can do that here).

Position of the cutout
You can choose between a centered cutout, a top-positioned cutout (equal distance to the top and sides), or no cutout.

The outer dimensions always follow the size of the frame.

All passepartouts are made from 1,5 mm acid-free board.
