About the frame
This matte black wood framebox is designed for a sharp, uncompromising expression, where the focus is fully on the subject. The deep, matte surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, creating a calm, graphic frame that highlights contrasts, colours and details.
The surface is uniform and without visible wood structure, giving the frame a precise and modern look. This makes it particularly suitable for photography, minimalist graphics and artworks where the frame should be present – but never take attention away from the subject.
The framebox, also known as an aquarium frame or a frame with a gap, is constructed with air between the glass and the artwork. This gap creates a distinct spatial effect and gives the motif depth and presence without appearing heavy.
The frame is manufactured in our Danish workshop with great precision. The 20 mm wide front profile and a total depth of 30 mm give a tight and balanced expression. The front overlaps the glass by 5 mm and ensures that the motif lies stably and precisely in the frame.
The integrated 14 mm spacers keep the motif clear of the glass and support the three-dimensional expression, while protecting the artwork from direct contact with the glass surface.
The frame dimensions are always specified based on the size of the glass and back plate and correspond exactly to the motif you want framed. The framebox comes standard with white, acid-free insert paper, and you can choose a passepartout without a cutout for a more distinctive or graphic expression.
If you want the framebox in a specific size or with special wishes for construction, it can also be ordered in special dimensions.
Glass
Glass plays a crucial role in both the visual expression and the protection of your motif. For frameboxes, we recommend real glass only.
Regular glass
A classic glass with clear colour reproduction and visible reflections, giving a traditional and honest expression.
Non-reflective glass
Significantly reduces glare and creates a more calm and uniform look, even in rooms with a lot of light. The slightly matte surface is a natural trade-off of this glass type.
Museum glass
An almost invisible glass with extremely high clarity and very accurate colour reproduction. Museum glass also provides at least 70% UV protection and minimises reflections to an absolute minimum.
Passepartout / Mat / Mount
The framebox comes standard with white, acid-free insert paper as a background. If you want a more distinctive and uniform surface behind the motif, we recommend choosing a passepartout without a cutout.
If you use a passepartout with a cutout, the frame should always be larger than the motif itself. For example, a poster measuring 30×40 cm with a passepartout width of approximately 5 cm fits in a 40×50 cm frame.
If you need more than one passepartout for the same frame, you can purchase an extra passepartout here.
Cutout
Choose a cutout that is 1 cm smaller than the motif’s dimensions in both height and width.
Cutout position
Choose between centered cutout, top-positioned cutout (same distance to top and sides) or passepartout without cutout.
The external dimensions always follow the dimensions of the glass in the frame.
All passepartouts are made of 1.5 mm acid-free quality cardboard.
