Exceptional lithograph from the 1920s - possibly 1910s. This poster is not just a rare original with over 100 years of history, but an unprecedented and possibly the finest poster promoting the route between Scandinavia and America.
In the early years, many immigrants from Scandinavia and the Baltic countries crossed the ocean to the New World in ships of the Scandinavian-American Line. The Scandinavian-American Line carried aspiring Scandinavian immigrants to the United States, with a luxury that made sea voyages a pleasure.
Frederik VIII was the last transatlantic steamer on the Scandinavia-America Line, and it was also by far the largest. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1974 to find a ship in DFDS' fleet that was bigger than Frederik VIII.
We have never seen this poster before, nor can we find it anywhere else on the internet.
Condition
7/10 - Some folds, one in particular is marked, as can be seen in the pictures. However, it must be said that the pictures were just taken while the poster was put up on a metal plate with magnets. When the poster comes in a frame, it will look much better. There is also minor moisture damage and a lot of patina, but otherwise super good condition with really nice colors.
Frame
A frame is not included with the poster, but we would recommend that you buy one of our custom made frames, and preferably with museum glass, so that the fantastic colors are preserved.
