Lithograph from 1924 (approx) by Anita Parkhurst. An original vintage poster that testifies to the earliest times in women's emancipation.
In the late 1850s, a small, concerned group of women began to sense the anxiety of the young women who were moving to the larger cities across the country from rural areas in search of work and self-sufficiency.
In 1858, a group of college-educated, Protestant women established the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Organization). Working together toward their united goal of improving the quality of women's lives, they became the first women's organization in the United States.
Their goals were lofty and included the joy of camaraderie among women, a spirit admirably reflected in this Parkhurst poster showing two young women embarking on the road to success.
Condition
10/10 - The poster is 100 years old, so it has a bit of a patina (thankfully), but the poster is not flawed in the slightest.
