About the frame

This box frame in light oak veneer is made for you if you want the natural look of oak - but in a more uniform and subdued interpretation. The veneer surface gives the frame a light, natural feel with an elegant and harmonious look, where the artwork is given room to stand out.

The box frame - also called a shadow box frame or a frame with spacing - is ideal for works that should not lie directly against the glass. The built-in spacing creates a clear spatial effect and gives the artwork both air and visual depth.

The frame is made in our Danish workshop with the same precision and construction as our solid oak frames. The 20 mm wide front profile combined with a total depth of 30 mm gives a balanced, timeless look that works equally well for modern graphic works, photography and classic art prints. The front overlaps the glass by 5 mm, so the artwork is held securely and tightly in place.

The box frame is fitted with integrated 14 mm spacers, which create an elegant distance between the glass and the backing board. The spacing ensures that the work does not touch the glass, while adding depth and a more three-dimensional look to the composition.

The dimensions of the frame are always stated based on the size of the glass and backing board and correspond to the artwork you want framed. As standard, the frame comes with white, acid-free insert paper. If you want a firmer or colored background, you can add a passepartout without a cutout.

If you need a very specific size or a special construction, the box frame can of course also be ordered in a custom size - made precisely to your wishes.

Glass

The glass is of great importance to both the experience and the protection of your artwork. Reflections, color reproduction and UV protection vary significantly depending on the type of glass. Below you will find the three types of real glass we recommend for box frames. We also offer acrylic glass, but do not recommend it for this type of frame.

Standard glass
A classic and clear glass with natural color reproduction. The reflections are visible and give a traditional look.

Non-reflective glass
A lightly matted glass that reduces reflections considerably. Suitable for rooms with a lot of light, windows or spotlights.

Museum glass
Our most exclusive glass. Almost invisible and with approx. 70 % UV protection. Brings out colors and details with maximum clarity.

Choose the type of glass that best suits both the artwork and the surroundings - the difference is often greater than you expect.

Passepartout

The frame comes with a visible backing board in brown masonite. If you want this as the background, a passepartout without a cutout is recommended. The spacers harmonize with a white passepartout, but other colors can create a beautiful interplay and give the framing more character.

If you want to frame your artwork behind a passepartout with an overlap of approx. 5 mm, you should choose a variant with a cutout. The following applies here:

Cutout size
The cutout size should be 1 cm smaller than the size of the artwork in both height and width.

If you want to combine two passepartouts – one with a cutout and one without – so the artwork lies on top of the rear one, the cutout must be approx. 1 cm larger than the artwork. Remember also to purchase an extra passepartout without a cutout (you can do that here).

Position of the cutout
The options are a centered cutout, a top-positioned cutout (the same distance to the top and sides) or no cutout.

The outer dimensions are identical to the dimensions of the frame.

All passepartouts are cut from 1,5 mm acid-free quality board.
