About the frame

The matte blue surface gives the frame a calm and sophisticated look. The color is intense, yet still light and fresh – somewhere between sea and sky – and it adds a balanced contrast to both warm and cool artworks. The slim 15 mm profile and the front's 5 mm overlap over the glass ensure that the artwork is held perfectly in place in a solid frame that does not cover the picture more than necessary.

The frame is made of ayous wood. A hard and light material that combines stability with an elegant finish. The solid construction makes it suitable for everything from small formats to large posters. The back has metal fittings for both vertical and horizontal hanging, and the flexible tabs / metal clips make it possible to replace the artwork many times – without the frame losing its strength.

We offer 32 standard sizes with this blue profile - from 10×10 cm to 70×100 cm.
If you need a special size under 70×100 cm, the frame can be ordered in a custom size here.

Glass

The glass matters greatly for both look and protection:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass) – light, shatterproof, and clear like standard glass, but with reflections when the light hits it.

Standard glass – classic glass with natural color rendering and distinct reflections that can be part of the aesthetic look.

Non-reflective glass – reduces glare markedly with its slightly matte surface and is ideal in rooms with strong lighting.

Museum glass – almost invisible, combines clarity with maximum UV protection and minimal reflection, so your artwork remains optimally preserved.

Compare the four types of glass.

Passepartout

If you want to frame with a passepartout, the frame must always be ordered larger than the artwork. An example: An artwork of 60×60 cm with a passepartout border of around 5 cm requires a blue matte wooden frame in 70×70 cm.

Our passepartouts come in a range of color shades. Above 81×110 cm, however, the choice is limited to white and off-white.

Inner size

Measure the poster as precisely as possible, and enter a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller than the measurements. An artwork of 61×91,5 cm should, for example, have a cutout size of 60×90,5 cm. That way the passepartout covers approx. 5 mm of the edge all the way around, and the poster lies stable. A reveal is also an option – you will find it in our Frame Designer.

Outer size

On the outside, the passepartout always has the same size as the glass. Remember that the front edge of the frame extends approx. 5 mm in over the glass, passepartout, and backing board.

Number of cutouts

You can have between 0 and 5 cutouts made in the passepartout. If you would like more, you are welcome to contact us. Zero cutouts is typically chosen when the work is to be placed on top of the board – an elegant way to show the entire edge, the signature, or the print marks.

Placement of the cutout

You have three options to choose from:

Centered cutout (standard): Equal distance to the top and bottom gives a classic, balanced look.

Top-placed cutout: The cutout is moved upward with equal distance to the top and sides and extra space at the bottom.

Free placement: Choose the position of the cutout yourself by entering the distance from the top and the left edge. With our preview you can see at all times what the passepartout will look like.

For a blue matte wooden frame, we cut the passepartout in 1,5 mm acid-free board of professional quality.
