Canada - RMS Laurentic - White Star Line

Very special original vintage poster from 1912, designed by an unknown artist. The poster shows the White Star Line ship RMS Laurentic with a graceful lady, and perhaps even more interestingly, a ship visible on the horizon through the lifeline which is either RMS Olympic or RMS Titanic.

The Titanic sank on its maiden voyage in April of the same year as this poster was printed, so we guess that it is actually the White Star shipping company's greatest pride, the Titanic, that they chose to include on the poster. If we showed this with 100% certainty and knew the artist of this exceptional poster, the poster would be worth significantly more.

RMS Laurentic was built in 1908 in Dublin, Ireland and sailed from 1909 to 1914 between Liverpool (England) and Quebec (Canada), which is also the reason why the poster is addressed to hopeful emigrants with the text: "Canada - The Land of Promise for the Domestic Girl", with an idyllic image of a Canadian house. From 1914 to 1917 she sailed for the British Navy during World War I, and was sunk by German mines off the Irish coast.

In our eyes, this is perhaps the most beautiful ship poster of the time, with a simple modern design, which was quite atypical for the time.

Perhaps the most incredible thing about this poster is that - despite all the above - we have never seen a similar copy before, and the poster is also in virtually perfect condition.

Condition

9/10 - A little patina and edge cracks but otherwise a lithograph in perfect condition. You will not miss the edge cracks and the bit of patina that is there.

Authenticity

We only deal in lithographs from a single private collector who is an expert in the field, with one of the world's most impressive private collections of original vintage posters. When you stand with the original copies in your hand, or look at the details through a magnifying glass, you can clearly see the difference between a lithograph and an ordinary poster, and the paper on which the posters were printed is no longer made at all.
