About the frame

The glossy yellow surface casts a warm light around the artwork and draws the eye in without overpowering. The color adds energy to graphic posters and gives black-and-white photos a sunny counterpoint. The slender profile and the rounded corners keep the overall impression light and contemporary.

Glass

Choose the glass for the frame with care. There is a big difference between all the glass types - also in price. For the smaller frames, acrylic glass and standard glass cost the same, while the standard glass is more expensive for the larger frames. The reason is that shipping real glass in large formats requires much more of us in terms of packaging and shipment.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass): light, shatterproof and clear as standard glass once the protective film is removed.

Standard glass: classic, crystal-clear rendering with glare.

Non-reflective glass: reduces almost all glare with a slightly matte surface.

Museum glass: full clarity + significant reduction of glare and UV rays.

Passepartout

A passepartout requires the frame to be one format larger than what you want to frame. If, for example, you want a border of approximately 5 cm around a 60×60 cm artwork, the frame must measure 70×70 cm.

Passepartouts can be ordered in several shades – however only in white and off-white when the format is larger than 81×110 cm.

Inner size

We recommend that you measure your artwork precisely and choose a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller. For a poster of 41×51 cm, this means a cutout size of 40×50 cm, so the passepartout overlaps by approx. 5 mm all the way around and holds the artwork securely. If you want a reveal edge, it can be selected in our Frame Designer.

Outer size

The outer size is adjusted automatically, as it is always the same as the size of the glass. The glass, passepartout and backing board extend about 5 mm in under the front profile of the frame.

Number of cutouts

Choose between 0-5 cutouts in the passepartout – and feel free to contact us if you want more. A passepartout without cutouts is typically used when an artwork is to be mounted on top of the board, e.g. to show the entire paper edge or the signature.

Placement of the cutout

You have three options to choose from:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout is centered, so the distance to the top and bottom is the same.

Top-placed cutout: Equal border at the top and on the sides, while the bottom gets a wider border – a classic gallery solution.

Free placement: Here you can place the cutout exactly where you want it. You choose the distance from the top and the left side yourself, and you can follow how it looks at all times with our preview.

The passepartouts are made from 1,5 mm acid-free board, which protects your artwork over time.
