About the frame

A light blue wooden frame that brings a breath of freshness to any wall. The color is reminiscent of summer sky and clear water – a cool, yet friendly tone that makes both black-and-white artwork and colorful posters shine. The matte surface gives a subdued look, while the slim 15 mm profile gives the frame a modern, minimalist feel. The front overlaps the glass by 5 mm, so the picture is held securely in place without appearing framed by lines that are too heavy.

The frame is handmade in solid ayous wood, a stable and lightweight material that combines strength with elegance. It can be used for everything from small pictures to large posters, and the metal parts on the back make hanging easy – both vertically and horizontally. The flexible metal clips make it possible to replace the artwork many times without weakening the frame.

Glass

The glass affects both the visual look and the protection of your picture:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass) – lightweight, shatterproof and crystal clear once the protective film is removed.

Standard glass – classic glass with high clarity and natural colors.

Non-reflective glass – reduces glare and gives a softer look, ideal in rooms with a lot of light.

Museum glass – almost invisible glass with maximum UV protection, so the artwork stays beautiful for many years.

Compare the four types of glass.

Passepartout

If you want a passepartout around your artwork, the frame itself must be chosen in a larger format than the artwork. For example, a 50×50 cm poster with a passepartout of approximately 5 cm requires a frame in 60×60 cm.

You can choose between several passepartout colors. In formats larger than 81×110 cm, however, they are made exclusively in white and off-white.

Cutout size

The inner dimension should be 1 cm smaller than the size of the artwork. If you are framing a poster measuring 42×59,4 cm with a passepartout, the cutout size should therefore be 41×58,4 cm. That way the board overlaps the artwork by approx. 5 mm on all sides, which keeps the poster stable and makes it easy to mount. If you would prefer a reveal edge instead, you can choose it in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimension

On the outside, the passepartout always has the same dimensions as the glass. Remember that the front edge of the frame extends approx. 5 mm in over the glass, passepartout and backing board.

Number of cutouts

You freely choose the number of cutouts between 0 and 5 – feel free to contact us if you need more. The solution with zero cutouts is typically used for artworks that are to lie on top of the board, so the entire sheet with signature and edge is visible.

Positioning the cutout

There are three options for the cutout:

Centered cutout (standard): The artwork is placed in the middle of the passepartout with an equally wide border at the top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: The same border width at the top and sides and a slightly wider border at the bottom.

Free positioning: You decide for yourself where the cutout should sit by entering the distance from the top and from the left side. Our preview continuously shows what the result will be.

The passepartout for a light blue matte wooden frame is made from 1,5 mm acid-free board of high quality.
