About the frame

This oak frame is made of 100% solid, untreated oak and is produced from start to finish in our Danish frame workshop. Each frame is assembled by hand and appears with natural variations in structure and color tone – exactly as real wood always will and should.

The profile has a 13 mm slim front combined with a 22 mm outer depth, which gives a light, elegant look without compromising on stability. For medium-sized formats, this profile is perfect. The front overlaps the glass and backing board by approx. 5 mm, so the artwork sits securely and precisely in the frame.

The stated dimensions of the frame always correspond to the dimensions of the glass and the backing board – and thus also to the poster or art print you want to frame. The frame can also be ordered in custom sizes.

Hangers on the back allow for hanging horizontally or vertically. Standard formats smaller than 24x30 cm also have a stand, so the frame can stand on its own.

Glass

The glass is of decisive importance for both the experience of the artwork and its durability over time. It affects colors, reflections, and protection against light. You can choose between the following four types of glass:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
A light and shatterproof alternative that is easy to handle and particularly well suited to large frames or homes with children. The surface gives the same natural reflections as standard glass, but without the risk of splinters.

Standard glass
The classic choice with clear transparency and faithful color rendering. Reflections are visible and give a clean, traditional look.

Non-reflective glass
A discreet, matte surface reduces glare significantly and makes the artwork more pleasant to look at – especially in rooms with a lot of daylight or spot lighting.

Museum glass
Our most exclusive type of glass. Almost invisible glass with high color accuracy, minimal reflection, and approx. 70% UV protection, which protects the artwork against fading. The result is an experience where the picture appears almost without glass.

The choice of glass matters more than most people think – both visually and in terms of preservation.

Passepartout

When you choose a passepartout, the size of the frame determines how much space there is around the artwork. The frame must therefore be larger than the artwork – a 30×30 cm poster with an approx. 5 cm passepartout requires, for example, a solid oak frame in 40×40 cm.

Our passepartouts come in a range of color shades. Above 81×110 cm, however, the choice is limited to white and off-white.

Cutout size

Measure your artwork accurately and subtract 1 cm from both the width and the height – that is your cutout size. A poster of 61×91,5 cm should therefore have a cutout size of 60×90,5 cm. The passepartout then overlaps the artwork by approx. 5 mm all the way around and holds it securely in place. If you would rather have a reveal edge, where a little of the paper is visible, you can choose that in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimensions

The outer dimensions of the passepartout always correspond to the dimensions of the glass, so you do not need to enter them yourself. Remember that the glass, passepartout, and backing board sit approx. 5 mm in under the front of the frame.

Number of cutouts

You can have between 0 and 5 cutouts made in the passepartout. If you would like more, you are welcome to contact us. Zero cutouts are typically chosen when the work is to be placed on top of the board – an elegant way to show the entire edge, the signature, or the print marks.

Position of the cutout

The cutout can be positioned in three different ways:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout is centered, so the distance to the top and bottom is the same.

Top-positioned cutout: Equal border at the top and on the sides, while the bottom gets a wider border – a classic gallery solution.

Free positioning: Position the cutout exactly where you want it. Enter the distance from the top and the left side, and see the result right away in our preview.

All passepartouts are made of 1,5 mm acid-free board of professional quality.
