About the frame

Our largest oak frame, produced in our Danish frame workshop with 100% solid, untreated oak – a material that is in itself a small piece of nature. Every single frame appears unique, because the oak carries its own story in the form of grain, differences in tone, and discreet markings from the growth of the tree. You therefore get not just a frame, but an organic and living element that develops a beautiful patina over time and gives your artwork a very special warmth and authenticity.

The frames are carefully cut, sanded, and assembled by hand in our Danish workshop. The wide 20 mm front profile and the solid depth of 30 mm give a calm, balanced, and exclusive look - perfect for both modern graphic works and classic art prints. The front overlaps the glass by 5 mm, so the artwork sits securely and tightly in the frame.

The dimensions of the frame always correspond to the size of the glass and the backing board, which are also the dimensions of the poster itself that you want framed.

Glass

The choice of glass affects both the experience of your artwork and its durability – far more than many expect. Color rendering, reflections, and resistance to UV rays depend on the type of glass. Here is an overview of the four options:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
Robust, light, and shatter-free – ideal for homes with children, or where the frame may risk knocks. Acrylic glass has the same natural reflections as standard glass, but is far more practical and safe in use.

Standard glass
The classic choice with a clear and honest rendering of colors. It gives a traditional and recognizable look with visible reflections, which often add a little depth to the artwork.

Non-reflective glass
With its slightly matte finish, this glass subdues reflections significantly. It makes the artwork clear from many angles and is perfect in rooms with strong light, large windows, or spotlights.

Museum glass
Our most exclusive type of glass. Museum glass is almost invisible and protects the artwork against approx. 70% of UV radiation. It brings out details and colors with impressive clarity and creates an experience where the artwork almost floats with no glass in front of it.

Choose the type of glass that best suits both the artwork and the surroundings – it makes a far bigger difference than you might think.

Passepartout

When you choose a passepartout, the size of the frame determines how much space there is around the artwork. The frame must therefore be larger than the artwork – a 20×30 cm poster with an approx. 5 cm passepartout requires, for example, a solid oak frame in 30×40 cm.

Passepartouts are available in several color tones. If the frame is larger than 81×110 cm, however, the passepartout can only be supplied in white or off-white.

Inner dimensions

Measure the poster as accurately as possible, and enter a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller than the dimensions. An artwork of 40×40 cm should, for example, have a cutout size of 39×39 cm. The passepartout thereby covers approx. 5 mm of the edge all the way around, and the poster sits stably. A reveal edge is also an option – you will find it in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimensions

You do not need to decide on the outer dimensions – they are always identical to the dimensions of the glass in the frame. The glass, backing board, and passepartout sit approx. 5 mm in under the front edge of the frame.

Number of cutouts

Choose between 0-5 cutouts in the passepartout – and feel free to contact us if you would like more. A passepartout without cutouts is typically used when a work of art is to be mounted on top of the board, for example to show the entire paper edge or the signature.

Position of the cutout

Choose between three types of position:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout sits in the middle of the passepartout with the same distance to the top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: Equal distance to the top and sides, which gives a wider border at the bottom.

Free choice: Perfect if you have a particular position in mind. You choose the distance from the top and the left side, and our preview shows the result at all times.

We use 1,5 mm acid-free board of professional quality for all passepartouts.
