About the frame

The dark blue high gloss gives the frame an exclusive and sophisticated look. The color is deep like a midnight-blue sea and subtly changes character when the light hits the glossy surface. The 13 mm slim profile highlights the artwork without appearing heavy, and the rounded corners add a calm balance to the whole. An elegant solution that suits both classic art prints and modern posters – and which can also be an exciting alternative to the traditional black picture frame when you want a more personal and refined look.

The frame is made of solid ayous wood – a strong yet lightweight material that ensures stability and easy handling. The front molding overlaps the glass by 5 mm, so both artwork and backing board are held securely in place. The back is fitted with metal fittings, so the frame can be hung both vertically and horizontally, and small metal clips (flexible tabs) make it quick to replace the contents.

The frame is available in 32 standard sizes from 10×10 cm to 50×70 cm, and can also be made in custom sizes.

Choosing glass

The glass affects both the experience and the protection of your picture. For small formats, acrylic glass and standard glass cost the same, while real glass in larger frames is more expensive because of packaging and shipping.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass) – lightweight, shatterproof and almost as clear as standard glass once the protective film is removed. With glare.

Standard glass – classic and clear, gives a sharp look. With glare.

Non-reflective glass – reduces glare markedly with a slightly matte surface.

Museum glass – combines maximum clarity, low glare and effective UV protection, so the colors are preserved.

Passepartout

If you want a passepartout around your artwork, the frame itself must be chosen in a larger format than the artwork. For example, a 40×50 cm poster with a passepartout of approximately 5 cm requires a frame in 50×60 cm.

Passepartouts can be ordered in several color tones – though only in white and off-white when the format is larger than 81×110 cm.

Cutout size

We recommend that you measure your artwork precisely and choose a cutout size that is 1 cm smaller. For a poster measuring 61×91,5 cm, this means a cutout size of 60×90,5 cm, so the passepartout overlaps by approx. 5 mm all the way around and holds the artwork securely. If you want a reveal border, it can be selected in our Frame Designer.

Outer size

The outer size of the passepartout is always identical to the size of the glass in the frame. Please note that the glass, backing board and passepartout extend approx. 5 mm in under the front edge of the frame.

Number of cutouts

You can have between 0 and 5 cutouts cut in the passepartout. If you want more, you are welcome to contact us. Zero cutouts is typically chosen when the work is to be placed on top of the board – an elegant way of showing the entire edge, the signature or the print marks.

Position of the cutout

There are three options for the cutout:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout sits in the middle of the passepartout with the same distance to the top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: Equal border at the top and sides and a wider border at the bottom.

Free choice: Here you can place the cutout exactly where you want it. You choose the distance from the top and the left side yourself, and can follow how it looks at all times with our preview.
