About the frame

This 12 mm narrow and 18 mm deep wooden frame is made of light brown, stained oak veneer, giving a calm and more uniform expression than solid oak. The surface has a warm, natural sheen where the wood structure remains visible, but without the stronger variations seen in untreated wood. This makes the frame ideal if you want a natural oak tone with a harmonious, consistent finish on all four sides.

The backboard is made of masonite and fitted with sturdy metal brackets, allowing the frame to be hung both vertically and horizontally. In smaller formats – under 18×24 cm – a support foot is included so the frame can also stand freely on a shelf, desk or windowsill.

The glass and backing plate sit 4 mm behind the front profile, and these measurements define the frame size. A frame listed as 30×40 cm therefore fits a poster or passepartout in the same 30×40 cm format.

Glass

Glass has a major influence on both the appearance and long-term durability of your artwork. Whether you want maximum clarity, reduced glare or premium protection, you can choose from four types:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
A lightweight and shatterproof solution. Ideal for large formats or rooms where the frame may be exposed. Once the protective film is removed, acrylic glass appears almost as clear as regular glass – with the familiar reflections that give the motif a classic look.

Regular glass
The traditional choice with natural sharpness and a clean, timeless appearance. The visible reflections often add depth to the subject, and work especially well in environments without harsh direct lighting.

Non-reflective glass
Perfect for bright rooms with large windows or direct light sources. The fine matte surface significantly reduces glare, making the subject clearly visible from more angles. Colours remain accurate, just with a softer and calmer visual mood.

Museum glass
The most exclusive option. Almost completely invisible, with minimal reflections and at least 70% UV protection. Museum glass preserves colours, contrast and fine details for many years, creating a viewing experience close to seeing the artwork without glass at all – only with optimal protection.

Passepartout / Mat / Mount

If you want to frame your poster with a passepartout, the frame must always be larger than the motif. For example, a 40×40 cm poster with a passepartout of approx. 5 cm requires a 50×50 cm frame.

We produce passepartouts in several colours. However, formats larger than 70×100 cm are only available in white.

Cutout

Measure your poster precisely and choose a cutout that is 1 cm smaller than the poster’s width and height. Example: A poster measuring 66×88 cm requires a cutout measuring 65×87 cm. This creates an overlap of approx. 5 mm all around, ensuring that the poster stays securely in place.

Outer dimensions

The outer dimensions of the passepartout always correspond to the size of the glass in the frame. Note that the glass, backing plate and passepartout are positioned approximately 5 mm behind the front profile of the frame.

Cutout position

You can choose between three different cutout styles:

Centered cutout (standard): Symmetrical distance to both top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: Same distance to top and sides, resulting in a wider bottom border.

Passepartout without cutout: Delivered as a full sheet, allowing you to mount the poster on top – ideal when you want to show the full motif, including printing marks or signatures.

All passepartouts are made from high-quality 1.5 mm acid-free cardboard.

Returns

You have a 100-day return policy on all purchases. Custom-made frames and passepartouts cannot be returned, as they are produced specifically to your measurements.

Damaged items
If your frame arrives damaged, please send photos of both the packaging and the damage to info@plakatkunst.dk, and we will send a replacement at no extra cost.
