In a time when climate change etc. has reached a critical point, and is high - but not high enough - on the political agenda, it is startling to see this original vintage poster from 1939 by Robert Cushman Murphy for Natural History Magazine.
The poster shows a map of the North American continent, and focuses on nature's man-made problems on the continent. The subtitle reads:
"Owing to rapid settlement and reckless exploitation, North America has suffered more from improper land use and the upsetting of Nature's balance than any other continent within so short a span of human history. Certain of the evil procedures and their consequenses are indicated on this pictorial map."
Under the card there are three beautiful drawings of bison, reindeer and bears in their natural element. All the glory is drawn by Joseph M. Guerry.
Condition
9/10 - Edge cracks, minor folds and a little patina but otherwise very good condition.
Framing
If you buy this unique copy, you'll probably want it framed. We do not frame the poster, but offer custom-made picture frames, which can be adapted precisely to this 48.5 x 66 cm (19 x 26 in). However, it will be cheaper, and perhaps also prettier, to put the poster on top of a piece of nice paper in a 50 x 70 cm frame , which is a standard size. We always recommend museum glass for the old, valuable lithographs, although it's not exactly the colors that make this poster spectacular.
