About the poster
Original Italian travel poster from 1950, published by the regional tourism authority Assessorato Turismo e Spettacolo della Regione Siciliana as part of post-war promotional campaigns. The poster was designed by the graphic studio Studio Artass in Genoa and printed in Palermo by Stab. d’Arte Grafica G. Zangara & F., as stated in the original margin text.
The composition brings together key elements of Sicily’s visual identity: Mount Etna rising in the background, classical ruins, and an abundant still life of citrus fruits and local produce in the foreground. The colour palette is characteristic of the period, combining deep blues with warm earthy tones and vibrant yellows and oranges, resulting in a striking and decorative piece.
The poster is printed as a traditional lithograph, offering a depth and richness of colour that differs significantly from later printing techniques. It also retains the original approval text at the bottom (dated 10 August 1950), confirming its origin as authentic campaign material.
This example has not been restored and is not linen-backed, but remains in its original condition with natural patina acquired over time.
Original travel posters from this period are highly sought after for their graphic quality, historical context and strong decorative appeal, and this is a particularly well-preserved example.
