About the frame

This dark brown wooden frame is finished with smoked oak veneer that wraps continuously around the entire frame profile. This creates a refined, cohesive appearance, with the warm texture of the wood and its deep tones looking harmonious from every angle.

The smoked oak has a dark, sophisticated tone with natural variations in the grain that add character without appearing busy. Its understated, elegant surface makes the frame particularly well suited to modern art, photography and classic vintage posters.

The profile has a 20 mm wide front and an external depth of 30 mm. This combination gives the frame a distinctive, architectural presence with generous depth while maintaining a clean, minimalist appearance. The front overlaps the glass and backing board by 5 mm, keeping the artwork securely in the frame.

The frame is made to order in Denmark and is available in all our standard sizes. The stated dimensions always refer to the size of the glass and backing board – in other words, the size your artwork needs to be to fit precisely inside the frame.

The back of the frame is fitted with versatile hanging brackets for both portrait and landscape orientation. This makes it easy to adapt the framing to the proportions of your artwork and the layout of your room.

Glass

Your choice of glass has a significant impact on both the appearance of your artwork and the way light interacts with the framing. We therefore offer four types of glazing, each with its own visual properties:

Acrylic glass (Plexiglas)
A lightweight, shatter-resistant alternative to real glass. Suitable for large formats and anywhere weight needs to be kept to a minimum. Once the protective film is removed, the acrylic is clear, with reflections similar to standard glass.

Standard glass
The classic choice, offering excellent clarity and natural colour reproduction. Its reflections give the framing a lively, traditional appearance.

Non-reflective glass
Glass with a matt surface that significantly reduces glare. Particularly suitable for bright rooms or near windows, where you want a clearer view of your artwork without distracting reflections.

Museum glass
Our most exclusive glazing option. Almost invisible, it reduces reflections to a minimum while protecting your artwork with at least 70% UV filtration. Ideal for original artworks and particularly valuable posters.

Passepartout

When you choose a passepartout, the frame size determines how much space there is around your artwork. The frame must therefore be larger than the artwork – for example, a 50×50 cm poster with a passepartout border of approximately 5 cm requires a 60×60 cm smoked oak wooden frame.

Several colours are available. For sizes larger than 81×110 cm, however, the passepartout is only available in white or off-white.

Opening size

We recommend measuring your artwork precisely and choosing an opening that is 1 cm smaller in both width and height. For a 42×59.4 cm poster, this means an opening of 41×58.4 cm, allowing the passepartout to overlap the artwork by approximately 5 mm on all sides and hold it securely. If you would like a coloured reveal, you can select this in our frame designer.

External dimensions

The external dimensions of the passepartout always match the glass size. The front edge of the frame overlaps the glass, passepartout and backing board by approximately 5 mm, which is worth keeping in mind when planning your framing.

Number of openings

The passepartout can be ordered with between 0 and 5 openings. If you need more, please get in touch. If you choose 0 openings, the artwork is mounted on top of the board, leaving the entire edge, signature or any printing marks visible.

Opening position

You can choose between three positions:

Centred opening (standard): A symmetrical position with equal space above and below.

Top-aligned opening: Equal border widths at the top and sides, with a slightly wider border at the bottom.

Custom position: Gives you full control over the position. Enter the distance from the top and left edges and see the result update in our preview.

Whatever you choose, the passepartout is made from professional-quality, 1.5 mm acid-free board.
