About the frame

Oak frames with 100% solid, untreated oak cut and assembled into beautiful picture frames at our Danish frame workshop. The frame has 20 mm external depth, with a 20 mm wide front that extends 5 mm over the glass and back plate.

If you buy the frame in the formats A0, 100x100 or 100x140 cm, we will make them with the deeper oak frame (30 mm), as it is simply best for the large formats.

The dimensions of the frame are the dimensions of the glass and backing board, and thus also the dimensions of the poster that you want to frame.

Glass

The glass in a frame does much more than just protect the subject. It determines how colors appear, how clearly the subject is seen in different lighting conditions, and ultimately how long the image retains its quality. Here's an overview of the four types of glass you can choose from:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
A lightweight and shatterproof solution that is especially suitable for homes with children or in rooms where the frame may be exposed to impacts. When the light hits, the natural reflections that are also familiar from ordinary glass occur, but acrylic glass is much safer and easier to handle.

Normal glass
The classic and most familiar glass choice. It provides sharp and faithful color reproduction as well as visible reflections that often add a bit of depth to the subject and a clean, traditional look.

Non-reflective glass
The slightly matte surface significantly reduces glare and makes the subject easier to see from multiple angles. This glass is particularly suitable in rooms with strong daylight, spotlights or large windows, where regular glass would quickly dazzle.

Museum glass
The most exclusive type of glass. Museum glass is almost completely invisible, has a classy, non-reflective finish and protects the subject from around 70% of UV radiation. The glass in your home also absorbs some of the UV rays, so colors and details stay beautiful behind the museum glass. With this type of glass, you almost get an experience where the picture appears as if there is no glass in front of it at all.

Choose the type of glass that best suits both your motif and the room where the frame will hang – it makes a bigger difference than you think.

Compare the different glass types

Passepartout / Mat / Mount

If you want to use a passepartout, the frame should always be selected in a format larger than the poster itself. An example: A poster of 40×40 cm with a passepartout width of approximately 5 cm requires a frame of 50×50 cm.

We offer passepartouts in several colors, but in formats over 70×100 cm, only white can be produced.

Cutout

Measure your poster accurately and choose an inside measurement that is 1 cm below the actual size of the poster. For example, if your motif is 66×88 cm, we recommend a hole measurement of 65×87 cm. This gives an overlap of approx. 5 mm all the way around, which both stabilizes the motif and makes mounting easier.

Outer dimensions

The external dimensions always correspond to the dimensions of the glass in the frame. Please note that the glass, backing plate and passe-partout slide approximately 5 mm under the front edge of the frame.

Cutout position

You can choose between three cuts:

Centered cutout (standard): Equal distance to both top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: Same distance to top and sides, giving a wider passe-partout at the bottom.

Passepartout without cutout: Here the poster is mounted on top of the cardboard – ideal if you want to show the entire motif, including signature or edge marks.

All passe-partouts are made of high-quality 1.5 mm acid-free cardboard.
