About the frame

This elegant frame radiates both finesse and strength. At only 13 mm in width and depth, it has an incredibly light look, which is emphasized by the softly rounded edges and the deep black, glossy lacquer. The surface is completely smooth and reflects the light in a way that gives both artwork and frame an exclusive sheen.

It is made of solid ayous wood – a hard and stable wood that ensures the frame a long life and a solid construction. Whether you are framing a small photo or a larger poster, the glossy black frame will add a modern elegance to any wall.

The frame is available in 37 standard sizes from 10x10 cm up to 60x80 cm. It is fitted with metal hangers on the back, so you can easily hang it both vertically and horizontally. The backing board is held firmly in place with small metal clips (flexible tabs), which makes it easy to replace what is framed. The front molding overlaps the glass and backing board by 5 mm, which keeps everything securely in place without covering the artwork more than necessary.

Choose the right glass

The glass makes all the difference – both for the look and for how your artwork is preserved over the years.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass) is light, shatterproof and almost as clear as standard glass once the protective film is removed.

Standard glass gives the classic, crystal-clear reproduction of colors and contrasts.

Non-reflective glass reduces almost all glare with its slightly matte surface – ideal for rooms with many light sources.

Museum glass combines clarity and protection: it dampens glare and blocks UV rays, so the colors stay vivid for many years to come.

Passepartout

When you choose a passepartout, the size of the frame determines how much space there is around the artwork. The frame must therefore be larger than the artwork – a 20×30 cm poster with approx. 5 cm of passepartout requires, for example, a black glossy wooden frame in 30×40 cm.

The passepartout can be chosen in several colors, so it matches both artwork and frame. For formats over 81×110 cm, only white and off-white can be ordered.

Inner dimensions

The cutout size should be 1 cm smaller than the actual dimensions of the artwork. If your poster measures 40×40 cm, you therefore choose a cutout size of 39×39 cm. This gives an overlap of around 5 mm on all sides, so the artwork stays in place and mounting is easy. A reveal border can be added in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimensions

The outer dimensions are adjusted automatically, as they are always the same as the dimensions of the glass. Glass, passepartout and backing board go about 5 mm in under the front profile of the frame.

Number of holes

You decide for yourself whether the passepartout should have 0, 1 or up to 5 holes. If you need more, you are welcome to write to us. Without holes, the artwork is placed on top of the cardboard – ideal for art prints where the entire edge or the signature should be visible.

Position of the cutout

You can choose between three positions:

Centered hole (standard): Equal distance to top and bottom gives a classic, balanced look.

Top-positioned hole: The hole is moved up, so the distance to the top and sides is the same and the bottom border becomes wider.

Free positioning: Choose the position of the hole yourself by entering the distance from the top and the left edge. With our preview, you can see at all times what the passepartout will look like.

For a black glossy wooden frame, we cut the passepartout in 1,5 mm acid-free cardboard of professional quality.
