About the frame

This black wooden frame is made for you if you prefer a completely clean and uniform look. The matte lacquer gives a smooth, even surface where the grain of the wood is completely hidden, so the look becomes crisp, graphic and modern. The profile has an outer depth of 30 mm and a 20 mm wide front that overlaps the glass and backing board by 5 mm. This gives solid framing without hiding more of the artwork than necessary.

All our standard sizes can be selected directly above, and the sizes always refer to the dimensions of the glass and backing board — that is, exactly the poster size you want to frame.

If you want to use a passepartout, the frame must be larger than the poster itself. An example: if you choose a 60×80 cm frame and add a passepartout for 50×70 cm, you get a border of approximately 5 cm all the way around. A passepartout can be added to all frames.

Choice of glass

The glass affects both how the artwork is presented and how well it is preserved over time. Here are the four types of glass the frame can be delivered with:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
The best solution if you want something light and shatterproof. Acrylic glass is ideal for homes with children or large formats where the weight matters. The clarity is close to that of standard glass, but with the characteristic reflections when the light hits it.

Standard glass
The classic choice. Gives a natural, sharp color rendering and the visible reflections that many associate with traditional framing. A good choice in rooms with subdued lighting.

Non-reflective glass
With its discreet matte surface, non-reflective glass reduces glare significantly. This makes the artwork easier to see in rooms with large windows, direct lamps or strong daylight.

Museum glass
Top quality. Museum glass is almost completely invisible, has minimal reflection and gives around 70% UV protection, so the colors stay vivid for many years. Together with the UV filters found in modern windows, museum glass gives excellent overall protection. The experience is like seeing the picture without glass — only with far better preservation.

Passepartout

If your artwork is to have a passepartout, you choose the frame in a format that is larger than the artwork itself. A poster of 20×30 cm with approx. 5 cm of passepartout all the way around fits, for example, in a frame of 30×40 cm.

Our passepartouts come in a range of color shades. Above 81×110 cm, however, the choice is limited to white and off-white.

Inner dimensions (cutout size)

For the passepartout to hold the artwork correctly, we recommend a cutout size 1 cm below the dimensions of the poster. If, for example, you have a poster of 70×100 cm, the right cutout size is 69×99 cm. The overlap of approximately 5 mm on each side ensures that the artwork sits securely and is easy to mount. Outer dimensions

You do not need to decide on the outer dimensions – they are always identical to the dimensions of the glass in the frame. The glass, backing board and passepartout sit approx. 5 mm in under the front edge of the frame.

Number of cutouts

The passepartout can be ordered with between 0 and 5 cutouts. If you need more, please do contact us. If you choose 0 cutouts, the artwork is placed on top of the board, so the entire edge, the signature or any print marks remain visible.

Placement of the cutout

The cutout can be placed in three ways:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout sits in the middle of the passepartout with the same distance to top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: The cutout is moved up so the distance to the top and sides is equal, and the bottom border becomes wider.

Free placement: Choose the position of the cutout yourself by entering the distance from the top and the left edge. With our preview you can see at all times what the passepartout will look like.

All passepartouts are cut in 1,5 mm acid-free quality board.
