About the frame

This matte black wooden frame is an obvious choice if you want simple, elegant and contemporary black framing. The deep, matte lacquer completely covers the natural grain of the wood, so the frame appears entirely smooth and clean in its look. The profile consists of a 20 mm wide front and a total outer depth of 20 mm, and the 5 mm overlap at the front ensures that the artwork is held stably and precisely without taking up unnecessarily much of the picture area.

The frame is available in all our standard sizes. The dimensions always refer to the size of the glass and backing board, so a frame in 40×60 cm fits a poster in 40×60 cm exactly.

If you want a passepartout, the frame itself must be larger than the poster. An example: A frame in 50×70 cm combined with a passepartout for 40×60 cm gives a passepartout border of approximately 5 cm all the way around. A passepartout can be added to any frame.

Choice of glass

The glass is of great importance for both the overall impression and the durability. For this frame you can choose between four different types of glass, each of which gives a distinct result:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
A light and shatterproof solution that is particularly well suited to large formats and families with children. When the protective film is removed, the acrylic glass appears clear with a look similar to standard glass.

Standard glass
A traditional type of glass that gives strong colors, clear contrast and the classic reflections that often underline a timeless look.

Non-reflective glass
Has a faintly matte surface that reduces glare significantly. It is ideal in rooms with a lot of daylight, many light sources or large windows, where reflections can easily disturb the experience of the artwork.

Museum glass
The most luxurious solution. Museum glass is almost invisible, greatly reduces reflections and offers approx. 70% UV protection. In combination with the UV filters already found in modern windows, it ensures very good preservation of colors and paper. The experience is almost like seeing the artwork without glass - only with optimal protection.

Choose the glass that best suits your artwork and the surroundings it will hang in - the difference is often far greater than you imagine.

Passepartout

A passepartout requires the frame to be one format larger than what you want to frame. If, for example, you want a border of approximately 5 cm around a 50×70 cm artwork, the frame must measure 60×80 cm.

You can choose between several passepartout colors. In formats larger than 81×110 cm, however, they are made in white and off-white only.

Inner dimensions

The cutout size should be 1 cm smaller than the actual dimensions of the artwork. If your poster measures 42×59,4 cm, you therefore choose a cutout size of 41×58,4 cm. This gives an overlap of around 5 mm on all sides, so the artwork sits securely and mounting is easy. A reveal edge can be added in our Frame Designer.

Outer dimensions

The passepartout is cut on the outside to exactly the same dimensions as the glass in the frame. Please note that the front edge of the frame covers approx. 5 mm of the glass, backing board and passepartout along the edge.

Number of cutouts

The passepartout is available with 0-5 cutouts of your choice. If you need more cutouts, contact us. If you choose no cutouts, the artwork is mounted on top of the board, which highlights the entire edge of the picture, the signature and print marks.

Placement of the cutout

The cutout can be placed in three ways:

Centered cutout (standard): Equal distance to top and bottom gives a classic, balanced look.

Top-positioned cutout: Equal border at the top and sides and a wider border at the bottom.

Free choice: Place the cutout exactly where you want it. Enter the distance from the top and the left side, and see the result immediately in our preview.

The passepartouts are produced in 1,5 mm acid-free board, which protects the artwork over time.
