About the frame

This silver-colored wooden frame has a look that brings to mind a find from an old market – a piece that already carries a bit of history. The surface is finely crackled and has just the right, understated patina that suits both modern motifs and older art prints. The wooden molding is 15 mm wide and 16 mm deep, and the front profile overlaps the glass and backing board by 5 mm, so the motif sits securely. On the back there are fittings for both horizontal and vertical hanging, and frames up to 18×24 cm also have a practical stand for placement on a shelf, table or windowsill.

The frame's formats are always based on the size of the glass and the backing board – and thus also the size of the poster you want to frame.

Glass

The glass is a big part of the overall experience. It affects everything from color depth and contrast to reflections and protection against UV light. Here you will find an overview of the four options:

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)
Light, strong and completely shatterproof – a really good solution in rooms where the frame may take a knock, or where children are around. The clarity is similar to standard glass, but you get a more robust and practical solution.

Standard glass
The classic choice with a natural clarity and the familiar shine. Here you get the traditional glass experience with visible reflections.

Non-reflective glass
The faint, matte surface reduces light reflections significantly. In very strong light the motif may appear slightly softer, but in return the picture becomes incredibly easy to see from all angles – perfect in rooms with many windows or spotlights.

Museum glass
The most exclusive solution. Museum glass is almost invisible, reduces reflections without any matte effect and protects the motif against approximately 70% of UV radiation. Together with the UV filter in your windows, it helps keep the colors beautiful for many years. Museum glass makes the motif stand out sharp and clear, almost as if there were no glass in front of it at all.

Passepartout

If you want a passepartout between the motif and the frame, choose the frame in a larger format than the motif. A motif of 40×40 cm with a border of approx. 5 cm fits in a vintage silver frame of 50×50 cm.

We offer passepartouts in several color tones. In formats over 81×110 cm, however, they can only be ordered in white and off-white.

Cutout size

The cutout size should be 1 cm smaller than the actual size of the motif. If your poster measures 50×70 cm, you therefore choose a cutout size of 49×69 cm. This gives an overlap of around 5 mm on all sides, so the motif stays in place and mounting is easy. A reveal border can be added in our Frame Designer.

Outer size

The outer size of the passepartout is always equal to the size of the glass. The front edge of the frame overlaps the glass, passepartout and backing board by approximately 5 mm, which is worth keeping in mind.

Number of cutouts

The passepartout can be ordered with between 0 and 5 cutouts. If you need more, please do contact us. If you choose 0 cutouts, the motif is placed on top of the board, so the entire edge, the signature or any print marks remain visible.

Placement of the cutout

There are three placements to choose from:

Centered cutout (standard): The cutout sits in the middle of the passepartout with the same distance to the top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: Equal distance to the top and sides, which gives a wider border at the bottom.

Free choice: You decide for yourself where the cutout should sit by entering the distance from the top and from the left side. Our preview continuously shows what the result will look like.

The passepartout for a vintage silver frame is made from 1,5 mm acid-free board of high quality.
