About the frame

In our range you will find both a standard aluminum frame for the smaller formats and this exclusive premium frame from Germany's Nielsen. The premium version is known for its exceptional stability and precision and is among the most solid aluminum frames on the market.

The front profile in matte silver is slightly curved and only 6 mm wide, which gives a minimalist, light and timeless look that is also strong enough for even the largest formats. The side has a brushed surface and a depth of 20 mm.

For formats below 30x30 cm, only our standard matte silver aluminum frame is used.

NOTE: The sizes always indicate the dimensions of the glass and backing board. A 30×40 cm frame therefore fits a poster of the same size exactly.

Passepartout

If your artwork is to have a passepartout, choose the frame in a format that is larger than the artwork itself. A 30×40 cm poster with approx. 5 cm of passepartout all the way around fits, for example, in a 40×50 cm frame.

You can choose between several passepartout colors. In formats larger than 81×110 cm, however, they are made exclusively in white and off-white.

Inner size

Measure your artwork accurately and subtract 1 cm from both the width and the height – that is your cutout size. A 61×91,5 cm poster should therefore have a cutout size of 60×90,5 cm. The passepartout then overlaps the artwork by approx. 5 mm all the way around and holds it securely in place. If you would rather have a reveal edge, where a little of the paper is visible, you can choose that in our Frame Designer.

Outer size

The outer dimensions of the passepartout are always equal to the dimensions of the glass. The front edge of the frame overlaps the glass, passepartout and backing board by about 5 mm, which is worth taking into consideration.

Number of cutouts

You are free to choose the number of cutouts between 0 and 5 – feel free to contact us if you need more. The solution with zero cutouts is typically used for artworks that are to lie on top of the board, so that the entire paper with signature and edge is visible.

Position of the cutout

You have three options to choose from:

Centered cutout (standard): Symmetrical placement with equal distance to the top and bottom.

Top-positioned cutout: An equally wide border at the top and sides and a wider border at the bottom.

Free placement: The cutout is placed exactly according to your wishes. You enter the distance from the top and from the left side and can follow along in our preview as you go.

All passepartouts are cut from 1,5 mm acid-free quality board.

Choice of glass

The glass is very important for both the look and the protection. In aluminum frames, glass is more expensive than in wooden frames, because metal frames require more careful packaging and handling. The risk of glass damage during transport is higher – and should it happen, we will of course send new glass (and a new frame if necessary). This risk is included in the price.

Acrylic glass (plexiglass)

A shatterproof and very lightweight material – particularly practical in large formats and perfect for homes with children. The transparency resembles that of standard glass and has the familiar reflections.

Standard glass

A classic choice with natural color rendering and distinct reflections. Recommended in rooms with calm light.

Non-reflective glass

The slightly matte surface reduces glare significantly and makes the artwork more visible in rooms with strong light, large windows or direct lighting.

Museum glass

The most exclusive solution. Almost invisible, with minimal reflection and at least 70% UV protection. Together with the UV filter of modern windows, it noticeably preserves the colors and gives the experience of seeing the artwork without glass.

Framing and hanging

The premium frame has two movable brackets on the back. Use the included cord and hang the frame horizontally.

How to put the poster in the frame:

1. Loosen all the corner screws, and remove the two brackets on one of the short sides.

2. Remove the spring clips that hold the backing board in place.

3. Take the short rail off completely.

4. Slide the glass and backing board out as one single unit.

5. Place the poster between the glass and the backing board.

6. Slide the unit back into the frame.

7. Refit the rail and tighten the corners almost all the way.

8. Put the small clips in place so that the backing board is held tightly against the glass.

9. Finish tightening the corners completely.
