About the poster
Original Dutch travel poster from 1922 with the distinctive title “Beautiful Sands”. The poster promotes the coastal regions and seaside resorts around The Hague and Scheveningen with a colorful and striking graphic style strongly influenced by the early Art Deco movement and the exclusive European travel posters of the era.
The composition combines several classic elements of early tourism advertising: a traditionally dressed Dutch woman, a graphic map of the Dutch west coast, and bold decorative typography highlighting “Bathing”, “Golf”, and “Tennis”. The result is both informative and highly stylized, giving the poster a remarkably modern appearance despite its age.
At the bottom appears the signature “M. Lütschgni” together with the printer’s mark “Steendrukkerij Mouton & Co., Den Haag”, further emphasizing the poster’s authenticity and historical origin. This is an original lithographic stone print from 1922 and not a modern reproduction.
The colors remain exceptionally vibrant, with deep black fields, warm orange tones, and vivid blues that make the poster especially impressive when framed. The combination of cartographic graphics, travel romanticism, and early modernist design makes this piece highly appealing both to vintage poster collectors and to admirers of classic graphic design.
Condition
Condition rated 9/10. The poster remains in unusually fine condition for its age, showing only light patina and a minor fold. The colors are still vivid and intense, and the overall presentation is exceptionally strong — especially when framed.
