Australian travel poster circa 1935 by Percival Albert Trompf (1902–1964), who was an Australian graphic designer and artist, best known for his colourful and eye-catching travel posters from the 1920s to the 1950s. His work played an important role in promoting Australia as a tourist destination, both to national and international audiences.
Trompf combined strong, clean lines with vibrant colors and an optimistic style characteristic of the Art Deco movement of the time. His posters often depicted idyllic beach scenes, exotic landscapes, modern urban environments and iconic Australian motifs such as The Ghan train, the Great Barrier Reef and outback operators. His visual style made it possible to portray Australia as both a modern and natural paradise – a land full of adventure and sunshine.
He often worked for organisations such as the Australian National Travel Association and Victorian Railways, and his work was used in advertisements, brochures and public campaigns. In addition to their functional purpose, Trompf's posters are now highly regarded as works of art and as historical evidence of Australia's national identity and the development of the tourism industry in the 20th century.
Condition
7/10 - Fold in the middle, and tear on the right side, of which we have most, with which it can be restored. Also some other minor damage, but a nice poster in relatively good condition.
