Original Norwegian vintage poster by Arne W. Normann, with the Swedish text "Vinter och Högfjällssol", which can be translated to Winter and high mountain sun in Norway. Normann was born in 1913 and lived until 1987. He was active as a poster artist in the mid-20th century, especially in the period after World War II, when he made many of the posters that promoted ski trips and Norwegian tourism. His work continues to have great significance in Norwegian graphic design history.
He was a Norwegian poster artist, known for his eye-catching vintage posters promoting ski trips to Norway. His posters have become iconic for their depictions of winter landscapes, fjords, and Norwegian mountain ranges, which attracted tourists who wanted to experience the magic of winter in Norway.
Normann is particularly recognized for his ability to combine simple graphics with strong visual elements, making his posters both modern and timeless. His work was part of a broader movement of Scandinavian design in the 1950s and 1960s, which often expressed a minimalist aesthetic with clean lines and strong colors.
The vintage posters Normann created were used by Norwegian tourist agencies and ski companies to promote Norway as a top ski destination. These posters were not only practical marketing tools, but also works of art that captured the Norwegian nature and the essence of winter in a stylized and dreamy way.
The posters were very popular in their time and are now considered part of Norway's visual heritage. Normann's style, which often included elements such as snow-capped mountains, stylized skiers and colorful sunsets, captured the essence of the Norwegian winter and became a symbol of the country's natural beauty and opportunities for winter activities.
The poster here is extremely rare. We have never seen it before and it cannot be found anywhere else on the internet.
We don't know exactly when the poster is from, but Normann was primarily active as a poster artist in the 1950s and 1960s, and we guess that this rare poster in black and white is from the 1950s.
Condition
9/10 - Patina, but otherwise perfect condition. In our photos the poster looks quite wrinkled, but once it gets into a frame it won't be noticeable at all.
