This original vintage York travel poster was published by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) and features a striking black and white design. The artwork presents a dramatic view down The Shambles - York's famous medieval street with characterful overhanging shop fronts - leading towards the illuminated York Minster (The Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of Saint Peter, founded in 627). The contrast of the white cathedral against a deep black background gives the work a bold, timeless appeal.
The poster was designed by Schabelsky, who was an artist known for creating travel posters for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in the 1920s and 1930s. His works often featured scenic landscapes and landmarks, promoting tourism to various destinations served by the railway.
Below the picture, the poster reads: York on the London and North Eastern Railway of England and Scotland .
Printed by Vincent Brooks, Day and Son Ltd.
